The Ukrainian World Congress President (2008-2018), Eugene Czolij, actively participated in the Summit of the Ukrainian World Congress on 12-14 April 2024 in the Romanian Parliament in Bucharest.
In particular, he was the moderator of the session titled “Confiscation and transfer to Ukraine of Russia’s frozen assets abroad” on 13 April 2024 with the following panelists: Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi, Executive Director of the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Zakhar Tropin, Advisor to the Minister of Justice of Ukraine, and Yuliya Ziskina, Senior legal counsel at Razom Advocacy. During this session, the participants were familiarized with the Register of Damage Caused by the Aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as strategies for Ukraine’s access to Russia’s assets abroad, which were frozen by Western authorities in response to the Russian military invasion of Ukraine. This is currently a very important topic since it is estimated that the frozen assets abroad of Russia’s Central Bank alone are worth 260 billion euros and the 2023 financial return on a portion of those assets in just one central securities depository was about 4.4 billion euros.
Eugene Czolij also spoke on 14 April 2024 at a meeting with the Ukrainian community in Bucharest, where he paid tribute to the Union of Ukrainians in Romania, headed by Member of the Romanian Parliament, Mykola Miroslav Petrecky, for the very successful organizational work in the preparation and holding of the Ukrainian World Congress Summit in the Romanian Parliament.
